It seems like being a vegan and getting a tattoo… or two… or 50… goes hand in hand. Keeping the process vegan and cruelty free can be a bit of an adventure. Have a guide or at least knowing what to ask and what to look out for can be a great help. Welp, that’s what we’re here for!

I recently started my first sleeve and had an amazing experience with my artist, Carlos Fuentes [instagram] of Mystic Owl Tattoo. I was lucky enough to work with a shop that already followed a vegan practice. However, I wanted to share some things to be aware of as well as what to expect when you start your tattoo journey.

  • Watch out for
    • bone char, glycerin from animal fat, gelatin, or shellac
  • Non-vegan
    • MOMS Nuclear / Millennium
  • Vegan

Transfer Paper

Razor / Soap

  • Watch out for
    • glycerin from animal fat, gelatin, or lanolin
  • Non-vegan
    • Most cheap razors and “green soap”
  • Vegan
